International Mountain Bike Association Trailbuilding Workshop

23rd & 24th November 2013

 

This is it, the BIG one.  Its what we have all been waiting for - a new full length downhill trail !!

Expert professional trailbuilders HM Lim from Singapore and Chris Kehmeier from IMBA in the US leading 1-hour workshops followed by full days of work on Tin Man, aka 'Kuan Kiu'. We'll meet at the Tai Mo Shan Visitor Centre at 9am, and finish around 4pm. NEW BUILDERS WELCOME!

HM is the brains and brawn behind DirTraction. He has built excellent trails here and in Singapore, and organized events like Red Bull Dark Knights.

Chris is a trails project manager from Colorado who has helped build all those trails we read about in bike magazines. You can read about some of his projects at his blog: http://www.imba.com/blog/36

New volunteers who attend the workshop will be welcomed by AFCD as part of our dedicated trail stewardship crew - so PLEASE spread the word, and invite your friends and anyone you have met or will meet who might be interested in helping us to build more trails.

Rumors suggest that this will be the most hardcore of all the new trails built in recent years and is expected to take 12 months to complete.  We really need all your help to make this another huge success for trailbuilding and mountain biking in Hong Kong.

EVENT - Green Rider 2013, Tai Lam Reservoir.

Hong Kong Conservancy Association and HKMBA bring you the "Green Rider" race.

Although not a hardcore Downhill race or gut busting Enduro style event, riders may want to use this as a build up to other events or simply as a fun competition.

Bicycles will lead the 1 July rally.
Meet Moreton Terrace (next to main Library), 2.00pm.

We call on the administration to recognise the popularity and diversity of cycling now, and support it to boost Hong Kong's livability, economy and health in the future.

Everyone who jumps on their bike to get to where they're going or to enjoy the ride deserves a government that plans and allows for their needs. All kinds of us use bikes for all kinds of reasons and we’re tired of being pushed to the side of policymaking and told "keep out of the way of the important people."

Why does Transport Dept still deny that lots of Hong Kong people ride bikes to go places, even as our neighbours and many other countries are developing the role of functional cycling in a modern city? Our government must look seriously at what cycling can do for Hong Kong.

Please join us to ride (slowly) or walk with your bike at the front of the rally on 1 July.

Important note: police will be checking equipment in Moreton Terrace. Please ensure your bike is fully legal, eg brakes, lights when it’s dark, reflectors.
