South Lantau Mountain Bike Trail Feasibility Study “project update”
CEDD the government agency in charge of the South Lantau Mountain Bike Trail Project has been very proactive in assuring a proper trail network will be built in South Lantau. The contract winning bidder, Scott Wilson, has been pursuing every possible option for providing a trail network system that will surpass anything Hong Kong currently offer, and offer a future model of how biking will unfold in Hong Kong.
Scott Wilson has hired professional trail building experts from the USA to assure the trail network adheres to international standards of sustainability, multi-use and of course good riding.
Alta Planning Inc. headquartered in Seattle, Washington, the sub-contractor to SW, has done extensive field reconnaissance and mapping in conjunction with CONTACT _Con-3C6EC76498 \c \s \l Julien Lallemand who was hired as the local Hong Kong expert. Together using advanced GPS mapping technology they have studied, mapped and drawn out a plan that encompasses all of south Lantau.
In September CEDD, Scott Wilson and AFCD will be traveling to Whistler, Canada to see first hand how a world-class mountain bike facility operates and benefits the community. They will be meeting with whistler bike park management, local government park officials, trail building companies and the International Mountain Bike Association.

This project represents an amazing opportunity for outdoor enthusiasts putting Hong Kong in the forefront of green out-door tourism in Asia.
Once the feasibility study is compete and all stakeholder interests have been considered, all necessary government approvals are gained, and funds are found for ongoing maintenance then the second phase of the project will begin, the construction and building of the network.
Without much fan-fare, a major shift in the way Hong Kong approaches park use and outdoor venues is underway. There are however some government agencies who resist any changes in park rules, but once the full value of this project is reveled we hope the nay-sayers will change their backward thinking ways and Hong Kong will take it’s rightful place along side other world-class biking destinations.
