Action Asia Mountain bike series is back

The HKCA racing season may be drawing to a close but don’t pack away your race kit just yet as the Action Asia mountain bike series 2009 is back

With sponsors pulling out at the last minute it was uncertain that the 2009 Action Asia MTB series would ever get off the ground, Mike Maddess, director of Action Asia Events is determined to push ahead with the series. “ We are trying urgently to find a title sponsor…. We don’t want to have to take a bath on this race. We realize these events mean so much to the riders and the biking community as a whole, so we are determined to make it happen.” He says.

Starting May 3 and other races scheduled for September, October and November, this four race series will take place in venues across the territory, these are still to be confirmed but are likely to be Chi Ma Wan, Tai Lam Chung. Lamma Island, and possibly Sheung Shui. The series will use the same points system as last year to determine the overall winner.

“Last years series was a great success, we were surprised at the number of entrants, from hardcore athletes to fun riders. We hope this years series even in this economic downturn we will have a strong turn out. What better way to vent your frustrations.” Says Maddess.

Will Hong Kong’s Olympian Cheng Cheuk Chun(鄭卓雋) retain his title?no one can tell but by looking at his recent domination of the HKCA races, hes the one to beat But one things for sure, with Maddess’s continued commitment to the biking community it seems only fare that the Hong Kong biking community should support the only non government run race series in the territory. Whether you’re an hardcore racer or just a weekend warrior out for some fun, sign up and show your support.
