Lance Armstrong's name is more readily associated with the Tour de France not a small town in the new territories, but not anymore on Sunday 18th January, Hong Lok Yuen international school will be hosting “Le Tour de Hong Lok Yuen”, a sponsored cycle ride that aims to raise money for the cancer charity LIVESTRONG. A charity that Lance Armstrong set up after his long but successful battle with cancer.

The organizer, Steve Potts a teacher at the school who himself is a cancer survivor and avid cyclist decided to hold the event when he learned that one of his students was receiving treatment for leukemia.

“We have organized this event to raise money but also awareness of the disease and its treatment.” Says Potts.

HKMBA will be there along with CrossCountry HK to help out and host a variety of mini events from basic skills courses and bike maintenance workshops to fun events like slow races, obstacle courses and bike battleships. “We feel it’s a great opportunity to raise awareness about biking in HK, and to encourage more kids to get out on bikes.” Says Bob Smith chairman of HKMBA. “It’s also supporting a great cause, I wish there were more guys like Potts.” He continues.
