Is there a doctor in the house

STEVE PEAT THREE TIMES WORLD CUP CHAMPION AND RUNNER UP IN THE 2008 MOUNTAIN BIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS HAS BEEN AWARDED A HONORARY DOCTORATE

Sheffield-born world champion downhill mountain bike racer, Steve Peat, has been recognised for his achievements with an honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University. The award of Doctor of the University is in recognition of Steve's outstanding contribution to sporting excellence, to local charity and to the city of Sheffield.

"This is a great privilege... I never, ever expected to be here. Riding bikes has taken me to some amazing places and given me an awesome life." He said at the award ceremony.

Peat is already well known for his fashion label Royal, but few know of his plans to open his own academy that encourages children to get involved with mountain biking. Or that he also works closely with Weston Park Hospital's Teenage Cancer Unit. Over the past three years he has raised more than £28,500 for the charity.

He still lives in Sheffield a place for unknown reasons he is still calls home and can be seen out on his local trails of Wharncliffe woods every winter.
